Tap Takeover: HopCat Detroit to Open Saturday with 120 Different Drafts from Short’s

3528

HopCat Detroit will open Saturday on Woodward Avenue, just south of the Whitney Restaurant, with 120 drafts from Bellaire-based Short’s Brewing Co., breaking Short’s own previous world record of 100 different beers available at HopCat East Lansing’s opening in 2013.

The event is expected to draw hundreds of people to the brand’s newest location at Woodward and Canfield in Midtown. HopCat, the flagship brand of BarFly Ventures, has invested $4.2 million in the two-story building’s renovation.

The interior of the building includes 130 draft lines and is decorated with an extensive collection of local art, historic concert posters, and Detroit concert photography.

Like all BarFly Ventures establishments, HopCat Detroit will implement an extensive composting and recycling program that will divert more than 90 percent of the waste it generates from landfills and incinerators.

During the grand opening, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., HopCat will provide visitors with free Crack Fries, the brand’s seasoned, beer-battered fries. The first 200 people in line will receive free order of the popular appetizer every week for a year.

At 9 p.m., Detroit’s Howling Diablos and New York’s Pitchblak Brass Band will perform in the Huma Room, HopCat’s second floor music and entertainment venue.
