Sweet Lorraine’s Fabulous Mac n’ Cheez! restaurants will open in Midtown and East Lansing this summer.
“We are excited to be adding a new location in the bustling Midtown area to serve customers who are looking for fun, high quality food for dine-in or on the go,” says co-founder Gary Sussman. The first location, in East Lansing, will open in July.
Sussman says Sweet Lorraine’s will offer vegetarian, vegan, and organic soups, salads, sandwich wraps, grilled cheese, and 14 different kinds of vegetarian and meat-topped macaroni and cheese, all made fresh to order.
Along with her Sweet Lorraine’s Café & Bar restaurants in Livonia and Southfield, co-founder and Chef Lorraine Platman says her Mac n’ Cheez eatery allows customers to add creative twists on the classic dish.
“We’ve created the ultimate ooey-gooey twisted comfort food by allowing guests to create over a billion — and yes we’ve calculated them — combinations using our 37 toppings,” Platman says.
Sussman says the fast-casual restaurant’s first franchised outlet will open in August and will be in the General Motors Renaissance Center, with plans to open 10 to 12 more franchised locations in Michigan and the U.S. in the next two years.
In other foodie news, Fractured Prune Doughnuts, which offers hot doughnuts that are hand-dipped and topped-to-order, is opening in Canton on April 22.
“This is the doughnut Michigan has been waiting for, words don’t do it justice, “ says Lori Wigler of Fractured Prune Michigan. “There’s just nothing like the taste and texture of a truly hot doughnut glazed and topped to your exact specifications.”
With 19 different glazes and 14 toppings to choose from, the doughnut shop has a specialty menu with creations that are not available at traditional doughnut shops. Items on the menu include French Toast (maple, cinnamon, and sugar), Blueberry Hill (blueberry glaze and powdered sugar), and Morning Buzz (mocha, chocolate cookie crumbles).
The first 100 customers on April 22 will have the chance to win prizes, including free doughnuts each month for a year, free T-shirts, and a free dozen doughnuts. Those customers will each receive a scratch-to-win card revealing their prize.
