Plymouth Township-based Lee Group, a marketing consulting firm, will once again host a small business guidance and support workshop in May for both aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners at TechTown Detroit.
“(The workshop is) going to be focused on providing attendees critical keys for success,” says Mark Lee, president and CEO of the Lee Group. “We’ll have speakers and panel discussions focused on providing practical advice and counsel for existing and aspiring business owners focused on growth.”
Lee says the half-day workshop on May 3 will offer sessions on articulating a vision for a company, effectively communicating a brand, managing a company’s financials, and identifying a target audience and market. He says the panel discussion will be centered on the question, “Are you really ready for business?”
Speakers include Juliana Perry, vice president of retail business at Fifth Third Bank; Carolyn Cassin, president of the Michigan Women’s Foundation; Ray Waters, president of the Detroit Development Fund; and Hajj Flemings, president and founder of Brand Camp University, among others.
This year’s workshop, which returns for its second year, will primarily focus on offering advice for existing business owners who have hit a wall in terms of growth.
“They’ve been in business for probably three to five years and they’re looking to take their business to the next level,” Lee says. “It does not mean that we won’t take those who want to get into business (but) … we know that a significant number of businesses have launched in the Detroit area over the last few months and we want to make sure they have the tools in place to be successful in the long term.”
