The Troy-based Suburban Collection announced today its acquisition of two dealerships — BMW of Ann Arbor and Mercedes-Benz of Ann Arbor — from Charlotte, N.C.-based Sonic Automotive. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Combined, the two new dealerships will add 75 employees to the Suburban Collection, bringing the automotive group’s overall employee count to more than 2,000 professionals.
“These stores presented an ideal opportunity for the Suburban Collection to not only widen our footprint in Ann Arbor, but also to bring additional marquee brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz to our portfolio,” says David T. Fischer, chairman and CEO of the Suburban Collection.
The company’s other Ann Arbor locations include Suburban Chevrolet Cadillac, Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, and Suburban Alfa Romeo and Fiat.
The announcement comes two weeks after the Suburban Collection’s acquisition of Don Massey Cadillac in Plymouth and Cadillac of Lansing — both from Sonic Automotive.
Suburban BMW of Ann Arbor and Suburban Mercedes-Benz of Ann Arbor are at 501 Auto Mall Dr. and 570 Auto Mall Dr., respectively.
Overall, the Suburban Collection, has nearly 50 dealerships in Michigan, Florida, and California, operates auto repair and collision centers, and runs GM-authorized accessory distributors and installers in Michigan, Florida, and Chicago. It also manages a fleet of historical vehicles for GM. Richard Fischer founded the company in Troy in 1948.
