The Southfield-based construction consulting company Atwell, in its second acquisition of the year, purchased Karins and Associates, an engineering, surveying, and planning firm headquartered in Delaware with offices in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition follows a year of expansion through growth and acquisitions across the U.S. for Atwell. Its most recent was made earlier this month with the purchase of Banks Engineering, an engineering and surveying firm in Fort Myers, Fla.
The company also acquired Summit Engineering, a civil engineering and land surveying firm in Heber City, Utah; and Mead Gilman & Associates, a land surveying firm located in Woodinville, Wash.
The Karins move was made to strengthen Atwell’s resources and capabilities in the Mid-Atlantic region, building on the acquisitions of Bay Engineering in Annapolis, Md., in 2023 and Ben Dyer Associates in Mitchellville, Md. in 2022.
Operating in the Mid-Atlantic since 1973, Karins serves a diverse group of clients with the company’s more than 50 employees. The addition of Karins is intended to expand Atwell’s engineering and surveying services within land development, transportation, water resources, and public works throughout the region.
