Get out your cigar cutters. After nearly a year of construction, Socialight Cigar Lounge & Bistro is now open in West Bloomfield, with a second location set to open in May at Twelve Mile Crossing at Fountain Walk in Novi.
While the Novi location will be an all-smoking venue, the majority of the West Bloomfield site is designated to non-smoking, says co-owner Jeffrey Yatooma. The cigar area is separated from the bar and main dining room and features a state-of-the-art filtration system.
“We wanted to have something for everybody, but we wanted to be a serious bistro first,” Yatooma says. “The separate cigar room allows us to differentiate ourselves from every other restaurant out there.”
In addition to nearly 240 cigar options, the bistro features a contemporary menu that includes vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. As Yatooma notes, “we’re not your typical cigar bar in that regard either.” Entrees, which range in price from $12 to $28, include Florida rock shrimp, wild mushroom ravioli, and Angus filet mignon.
John Janvirya, the designer behind the Black Pearl in downtown Ann Arbor, crafted the new restaurant, at 6139 Haggerty Road. Socialight can seat about 100 indoors, with additional seating available this spring on the outdoor patio.
Socialight is open from 4 p.m. to midnight Sunday to Wednesday and from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday to Saturday. Yatooma hopes to extend the hours to include lunch in the near future. “We’re just trying to build awareness and build out the brand for now,” he says.
