Arkansas-based Slim Chickens fast-casual restaurant chain is expanding into Ann Arbor with a location at 5505 Arbor Chase Dr. set to open on Jan. 6.
The new Slim Chickens location is the first of 25 in Michigan owned by brothers Brad and Todd DeLange who operate 10 Jimmy Johns outlets in the northwest suburbs of metro Detroit.
“Slim Chickens’ growth nationwide is encouraging and it’s something very different from our Jimmy Johns sandwiches,” says Brad DeLange. “This is a family business, and we love to serve. We’re here for our guests but what’s driven us to grow is giving some of our people the opportunity to grow and better their lives. We look forward to getting to know the community and getting involved with the schools and other businesses.”
Aside from bringing its fried chicken and Southern-inspired sides to the area, the new Slim Chickens location in Ann Arbor also is expected to make a positive economic impact with 75 new jobs.
The Ann Arbor opening is one piece in Slim Chickens’ growth story. Since its founding in 2003, the brand has celebrated more than 250 locations opened and an “enthusiastic” following in 34 U.S. states, as well as locations in the United Kingdom and Germany, with an overall goal of opening 600 restaurants within the next decade. In Michigan alone, the brand has locations at Oakland University and Central Michigan University.
“Our freshly made southern dishes and homemade recipes create loyal guests who feel good about the food they’re eating and we’re proud to be able to grow our loyal fan base into the Anne Arbor market,” says Sam Rothschild, COO of Slim Chickens.
By focusing on providing only 100 percent fresh chicken tenders that are buttermilk-marinated, hand-breaded and always cooked fresh-to-order, the brand says it has committed to providing a “better chicken experience that can’t be found anywhere else.” In addition, a choice of 14 house-made sauces adds exceptional flavor and has earned admiration from both guests and critics alike. Slim Chickens also offers fresh sandwiches, salads, wraps, and its signature chicken and waffles. Rotating desserts served in Mason jars also are available.
