Shred415, a high-intensity interval training fitness concept, opened its first Michigan location in Troy on Saturday at 443 E. Big Beaver Road (halfway between Rochester and Livernois roads).

The concept offers a 60-minute instructor-led interval training class alternating between speed and endurance drills on treadmills and strength and functional movement training on the floor. Classes are designed to increase muscle and burn calories in a fun, fast-paced workout tailored to individuals’ levels and goals. Students select their own weight levels and speeds on the treadmills.

The studio’s Woodway treadmills are used by professional sports teams, the military, and top-of-the-line fitness centers. Dumbbells, resistance bands, and BOSU balls also are used.

The 2,700-square-foot Troy location will offer care for children ages six weeks to 13 years old, complimentary lockers and towel service, and bathrooms with showers, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, lotion, hair dryers, and other toiletries.

“We have so many Shredders from Chicago who have moved back home to Michigan and are missing their favorite workout,” says Tracy Roemer, co-founder and co-owner of Shred415.

Shred415 will offer unlimited monthly classes through its Original Shredder memberships as well as eight-pack and four-pack monthly memberships and packages of 20,10, and five classes. The company also offers special promotions for Shred for the Wedding, post-baby bump, and military and corporate discounts.

Shred415 is owned by Ten More Yards Inc. and operated by Brittanie Chin Merkerson, president.

“As a Shred415 instructor in Chicago, I fell in love with the brand,” says Chin Merkerson. “I knew I had to bring it with me when I moved back to Michigan to be with my husband. We pride ourselves on being active in the community. We can’t wait to establish a new Shred family here in Michigan and help people achieve their fitness goals and improve their overall health and wellness.”

Ten More Yards is comprised of Chin Merkerson and her sister, Shauda Chin-Bonds, as well as their husbands Emerson Merkerson and Brian Bonds. Chin Merkerson has been part of the fitness industry for more than 10 years and will run the day-to-day operations of the Troy franchise. She completed her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Michigan and a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University in Illinois.

“Nothing excites us more than one of our favorite Chicago instructors, Brittanie Chin Merkerson, opening her own Shred415 studio,” says Bonnie Micheli, co-founder and co-owner of Shred415. “We look forward to being part of Brittanie’s journey as she supports a healthy community in Michigan.”

The Troy location will be open seven days a week. To celebrate the opening, the location is hosting 50 free classes in the first week and offering prizes including unlimited month memberships and free childcare. In addition, it will donate a portion of unlimited membership sales to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
