Shinola, known for its Detroit-crafted watches, bicycles, leather goods, and decor items, will open its next brick-and-mortar location on the corner of Liberty and Main Street in downtown Ann Arbor this spring.

“Known as a center for innovation and creativity, we are proud to be joining this vibrant community of thinkers, artists, and craftspeople who call Ann Arbor home,” says Heath Carr, Shinola CEO. He says an exact date for the opening has not been set.

With plans to employ seven people, the store will include a 1,495 square-foot retail space that offers a full lineup of products. In addition, there will be a community lounge on the lower level (nearly 2,000 square feet) with a satellite coffee bar by Birmingham-based Commonwealth Coffee Roasters, tables and seating, Ping Pong tables, and event space for public and private gatherings.

Since it launched in 2011, Shinola has had ties to Ann Arbor through their partnership with Edwards Brothers Malloy, a family-owned printing company and producer of Shinola’s handmade journals.

This is Shinola’s seventh flagship store with other locations in Detroit, New York, Minneapolis, London, Los Angeles, and Chicago. There are plans to open a store in Washington, D.C. within the year.
