Luxury furniture retailer Scott Shuptrine Interiors, a division of Warren-based Art Van Furniture, will open its first standalone storefront next spring in Grosse Pointe. In turn, on Oct. 24, the company will open a new design lab inside Art Van’s Novi location.

The Grosse Pointe outlet, to be located in the former Borders Books and Jacobson’s Home Store, at 17141 Kercheval, will offer customers an array of home furnishings and the ability to collaborate with design experts. Meanwhile, the design lab at the Novi location, 27775 Novi Rd., will feature collections from Hooker Furniture, Bernhardt Interiors, Century Furniture, American Drew, Highland House, and Vanguard Furniture.

“There is a growing demand for high end home furnishings,” says Jeanette McNamara, the company’s director. “Since we opened our flagship (Scott Shuptrine) gallery in Royal Oak, as well as our Grand Rapids and Petoskey showrooms inside Art Van Furniture, we have been encouraged by our valued guests to bring our exclusive luxury brands and personalized shopping experience to more communities.”

Representatives of Scott Shuptrine Interiors cite increased demand for upscale furniture and design services among the reasons for the expansion.

“With Michigan’s economy improving, we’re delighted to open two new locations on both the east and west side of metro Detroit,” says Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Furniture.
