Royal Oak-based Berg Steel Corp., a steel service center, has been acquired by Oak Brook, Ill.-based Union Partners I. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Berg Steel joins Union Partners’ group of steel service centers, including Lee Steel Holdings, which has several facilities across Michigan.
“This acquisition is a perfect complement to our Michigan infrastructure in Grand Rapids, Gibraltar, and Farmington Hills,” says Paul Douglass, spokesperson for Union Partners.
Existing Union Partners portfolio investments include Mapes and Sprowl Steel, Chicago Steel Holdings, JIT Steel Services, JIT Steel Transport, Cortran, and Opus Metals.
As part of the acquisition, Berg Steel Corp., which has supplied steel to customers in coil, sheet, or blank form for more than 45 years, will continue to operate as a top-tier service center focused on a continuation and expansion.
