Motor City Gas, a new micro distillery in Royal Oak, has partnered with a Livonia-based, century-old, packaging company to create unique bottles for its whiskey and bourbon offerings.

“MJS Packaging was really a key partner in our marketing efforts,” says Rich Lockwood, owner of Motor City Gas. “In our business, it's extremely important to make a powerful impression at the moment right before customers try the product for the first time. I think we nailed it with our bottles.”

Motor City Gas, 325 East Fourth St., opened in March. The nearly 2,000 square foot micro distillery and tasting room, with tastings around $2 and fifths priced at about $36. The location, two blocks east of Main Street, was the former home of Vintner’s Cellars.

“MJS Packaging was not only willing to take the risk of working with a small family-owned business like ours, but they stuck with us through an exhaustive search to find the perfect bottles that met our needs,” Lockwood says.

MJS Packaging, founded in 1885, is a manufacturer or glass and plastic containers, tubes, pumps, and measuring devices, among other products. The company has eight sales offices in the U.S.
