Royal Oak’s Vectorform, a digital product and experiences company with capabilities in mixed reality design and engineering, today announced a collaboration with Microsoft Corp. to innovate vehicle design and the prototyping processes for the automotive industry.

The partnership has resulted in the use of Microsoft’s HoloLens mixed reality headset to allow designers and engineers from Dearborn’s Ford Motor Co. to view 3-D holographic versions of exterior body options of the vehicles overlaid on top of the physical vehicle prototypes.

The technology has the capability for allowing multiple team members to view the same design simultaneously, as well as working to accelerate the prototyping process allowing for exploration of various shapes, sizes, and textures in minutes as opposed to weeks.

“The ability to help Microsoft and its automotive clients see the potential impact of mixed reality in its design process is a huge win for Vectorform,” says Jason Vazzano, CEO and co-founder of Vectorform. “As we continue to work with Microsoft and HoloLens, we can’t wait to see what other industry-transforming mixed reality solutions we will bring to market.”

Microsoft’s HoloLens Showcase team worked with Vectorform for three months on the design, content development, and engineering used to create the prototyping system.

Vectorform is an official Microsoft HoloLens Agency Readiness Partner in both North America and Europe. The company was founded in 1999 and has six offices including Detroit, Seattle, New York, Munich, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
