The 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club will take place May 25-31 due to the PGA Tour adjusting its schedule to accommodate players who will be participating 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.

As a result, Detroit’s PGA Tour stop will take place two weeks after the PGA Championship, May 11-17, at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco; a week before Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament, June 1-7 at Muirfield Village, Ohio; and three weekends before the U.S. Open, June 15-21, at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York.

Locally, the tournament will be played at the same time Indy Cars are running in the Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle, May 29-31. It also is taking place the week before the North American International Auto Show, which has moved from its traditional January dates to June 6-20.

“With the Rocket Mortgage Classic and the Detroit Grand Prix being held during the same week, we will have another excellent opportunity to shine a bright, international spotlight on the city of Detroit,” says Jason Langwell, the tournament’s executive director. “Viewers will have a front-row seat to some of the best excitement and energy Detroit has to offer.

“We are looking forward to holding to another phenomenal tournament in 2020,” Langwell continues. “Not only will the Rocket Mortgage Classic be a great way to kick off summer in Detroit immediately after the Memorial Day holiday, but we will once again have our tournament fall between two major championships – the PGA Championship and U.S. Open.”
