Rochester-based Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters today announced it will open a new coffee shop in September in The Albert in Capitol Park, a luxury apartment building in downtown Detroit.

“We’re dedicated to providing a community experience and a focus on our craft that you don’t get at large coffee chains,” says Nathan Hamood, co-founder of Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters with his sister, Stephanie Hamood. “We hope to be the first stop in the morning work commute and the evening entertainment destination for many of the people living in or visiting Capitol Park.”

The coffee shop will be located in the 2,600 square foot space on the ground level of The Albert, which is northeast of the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel. The shop will feature specialty coffees, desserts, and a light lunch menu along with nightly live music. Dessert Oasis Coffee in Rochester offers lattes, cappuccinos, fruit smoothies, breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit crepes, and chocolate or cheese fondue.

Co-founded in 2008, Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters specializes in small-batch coffee roasting and brewing by the cup.

The coffee shop is the second retail tenant announced at The Albert this year. Detroit Bikes opened a flagship store in the building in May.

Designed by architect Albert Kahn and built in 1929, The Albert features 127 one- and two-bedroom units. Broder & Sachse, a real estate services company that manages The Albert, expects a total of seven commercial tenants in the building.
