Lake Norcentra on the campus of Rochester College in Rochester Hills will undergo an enhancement project that includes the addition of a bike parking and repair station, boat and fishing access along the Clinton River, as well as the demolition of an existing maintenance building to make room for events and recreation programs.
B.T. Irwin, the consultant and project manager of the park, says construction and community programs will begin in the spring along the lake, located on the north side of Rochester College’s campus at the convergence of the Clinton River and Clinton River Trail. The 14-acre area includes bluffs, historic buildings, wetlands, and woodlands.
“We’re creating Lake Norcentra Park to be a place that brings neighbors together to enjoy what it means to be in the greater Rochester community,” Irwin says.
He says the project includes the addition of seating and tables, pop-up concessions, and programming throughout the year.
Chief Financial Credit Union, with branches in Rochester Hills, Pontiac, and Dearborn, today announced it will be the title sponsor of the park, and will offer community programming throughout the year, including live music and entertainment, along with service and learning opportunities.
Nearby Riverbend Park in Rochester Hills is also undergoing renovations, which will include the addition of an ice-skating pond, a boardwalk, and a play area for children.
Birmingham-based DesignTeam+, an architectural firm, designed the plans for both Lake Norcentra and Riverbend Park.
