Priority Health in Grand Rapids, the second largest health plan in Michigan, is partnering with Virta Health, a leader in addressing chronic metabolic conditions, to offer new solutions for weight management options and diabetes support among employers and employees.
A nationally recognized nonprofit health plan serving more than 1.3 million members, Priority Health members will have access to Virta Health’s nutrition-first programs and comprehensive, multi-specialty clinical support.
The programs are designed to help members lose weight sustainably with or without GLP-1s, and achieve type 2 diabetes remission by managing blood sugar while reducing medications.
Virta Health’s providers offer personalized nutrition plans, behavioral support, and ongoing medication supervision for members, and supports them by treating chronic metabolic conditions at their root cause.
“We are deeply committed to the well-being and empowerment of our members, and our partnership with Virta Health reflects that dedication,” says Alicia Coronas, vice president of employer solutions product and marketing at Priority Health.
“These creative and effective solutions are designed to support our members compassionately during their health journeys by offering personalized care and comprehensive support.”
Employers can choose a solution based on their needs and budget. The Sustainable Weight Loss program seeks to help members lose weight sustainably through nutrition therapy.
There’s also the employer option of Sustainable Weight Loss With Responsible Prescribing, which adds on-label GLP-1 support to the formulary when the medication is prescribed by a Virta Health physician. The doctor will work with the member to prioritize nutrition and lifestyle changes.
In turn, Diabetes Reversal,* focuses on helping a member achieve type 2 diabetes remission through nutrition therapy.
Virta considers each member’s medical history, personal goals and risk factors to create a personalized plan.
“Our expansion in Michigan marks a crucial step in addressing one of the most pressing health care challenges employers faces today – improving metabolic health in a way that is both sustainable and cost-effective,” says Dr. Adam Wolfberg, chief medical officer at Virta Health.
“By bringing our proven solutions to Priority Health members, we have the opportunity to not only transform individual lives but also tackle a top employer priority for the years ahead.”
All solutions are available to self-funded employers; Sustainable Weight Loss and Responsible Prescribing programs are available to fully funded groups.
Priority Health is the third-largest provider-sponsored health plan in the nation, serving members each year in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.

* Virta defines type 2 diabetes reversal as achieving an A1c below 6.5 percent without using diabetes medications other than metformin. This is medically termed “remission,” as diabetes can return if lifestyle changes aren’t maintained.
