Petite Cabane, a retailer of children’s clothing, toys, home décor, and specialty gift items with a European flair, has opened in downtown Birmingham.

Petit Cabane, French for “small cabin,” specializes in brands that are ethically made and mainly women-run. It is operated by friends and co-owners Carrie Martin and Samantha Foster. “We both live in Birmingham and love the community,” says Martin. “We’re surrounded by great dining and foot traffic. I’ve lived and shopped here for years and felt the community would appreciate our unique style, service, and quality.”

Martin is a Michigan native who lived in England for many years. She says she fell in love with the classic detailing of European clothing and moved to Birmingham with the hope of bringing European-style children’s clothing to the area. The store features items from England, France, Denmark, the United States, and Australia.

“As moms ourselves, we know how precious time is,” says Foster. “Our customers simply give us a price-point and an idea of what they’re looking for (sizing, gender, toy- clothing-, or accessory-based) and we’ll put a package together and have it ready for pickup.”

This season’s top requests are customized Easter baskets for children. Petite Cabane employees will prepare baskets for boys or girls with a range of products, including clothing and stuffed animals to organic/dye-free sweets and French macarons.
