Penske Corp. Signs Logistics Contract with Detroit Diesel Corp.

Bloomfield Township-based Penske Corp. today announced its logistics division has secured a contract with Detroit Diesel Corp. to support the company’s engine, transmission, and axle supply chain operations in Redford Township.

Penske will provide warehousing and dedicated contract carriage services for the inbound portion of Detroit Diesel’s operations, which includes sequencing and kitting.

Additionally, Penske, with more than 5,000 employees globally, will manage a NAFTA consolidation center. The company also will provide Detroit Diesel with international freight forwarding and other supply chain services.

“This new contract is a significant uptick in domestic business with Detroit Diesel,” says Marc Althen, president of Penske Logistics. “It represents a new chapter in our companies’ long and storied history.”

Detroit Diesel, a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America, currently employs 2,000 people and offers a complete line of heavy-duty diesel engines, axles, transmissions, safety systems, and connected vehicle services for the commercial transportation industry in both the highway and vocational markets.
