Opportunity Detroit revealed today plans for the MetroPCS Motor City Hoops Classic, a 3-on-3-basketball tournament that will benefit the Detroit Goodfellows and the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy.

The event, to be held adjacent to the Detroit RiverWalk on June 7 and 8, is expected to attract 400 teams from the area, with divisions for all ages and skill levels.

The tournament will celebrate the centennial anniversary of the Detroit Goodfellows, an organization that provides children in need with gift packages during Christmas, emergency dental care, shoes, and camp scholarships, as well as the nonprofit Detroit RiverFront Conservancy.

One of the event’s main goals is to bring area companies together, said Cynthia J. Pasky, board chair of the Downtown Detroit Partnership. “The tournament will provide an opportunity for the business community to create a sense of unity and camaraderie as their teams vie against one another,” she said.

Registration is now open. The deadline for team registration is May 23. For full details and to register, visit motorcityhoopsclassic.com.
