Oakland University’s School of Nursing will relocate its continuing education programs to the Focus: HOPE headquarters in Detroit, as part of a new, five-year agreement and collaborative partnership.

“The classroom, laboratory, and office space at Focus: HOPE will provide us approximately 10,350 square feet of new space,” says Gary Moore, interim dean of OU’s nursing school. There, students can also utilize on-site childcare, remediation services, social services, secure parking, onsite cafeteria, and a career services office.

Focus: HOPE, located at 1360 Oakman Blvd., east of Linwood Street, will be home to approximately 200 students pursuing certificate and professional development programming, including the licensed practical nursing and certified nursing assistant programs, Moore says.

The long-term lease extends the university’s current six-month agreement with the non-profit organization that provides education and training for underrepresented minorities.

“We look forward to maintaining a presence in Detroit and offering a high-quality education that leads to an in-demand job,” says James P. Lentini, OU’s senior vice president for academic affairs and provost

The agreement becomes effective on Jan. 1, and the first class schedules to be announced shortly.
