Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson today announced an event on March 21 at Michigan State University’s Management Education Center in Troy to discuss the results of the Skills Needs Assessment Project on Connected Mobility. SNAP is part of a series produced by Oakland County to help shape k-12, college, and university curriculum and content, to better prepare students of all ages to make career decisions.

Though previous SNAPs have focused on health systems and advanced manufacturing, the county is the first in the nation to look into the workforce needs of the autonomous vehicle industry and what it will mean in terms of job creation down the road. A new job classification that doesn’t currently exist in the Department of Labor will be unveiled during the event as well.

The event will feature exhibits regarding innovations happening in connected mobility at companies throughout the county, including: Continental Teves, Denso, Elektrobit, GoPoint Technology, P3 North America, Teledyne LeCroy, Uber ATG, and Valeo Inc. These companies will be showing educators what connected mobility technology actually looks like. Matthew Glibb, deputy county executive for Oakland County department of economic development and community affairs, will also speak on connected mobility’s role in the county.

All guests will receive breakfast and a copy of the SNAP results. There is no cost for the event, but space is limited so advance registration is required. More information can be found here.
