Gentherm, a Northville-based developer of thermal management technologies for the auto industry and others, will expand its operations with the opening of a manufacturing facility in the central part of Mexico.

"Our goal is to locate our manufacturing facilities near our customers, in North America, Europe, and Asia, to better serve our customers in all those areas," says Daniel Coker, president and CEO of Gentherm. "We know the work environment in Mexico well, having already enjoyed success in our manufacturing facilities there."

Coker says the 140,000-square-foot facility will produce a full line of seat comfort and industrial products. The facility, scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2016, is expected to provide up to 1,500 jobs.

Coker says the manufacturing facility, located near the city of Celaya in the state of Guanajuato, is Gentherm's third facility in Mexico supporting the North American market. Last year, Gentherm expanded its production capabilities into Asia and Europe with the construction of new facilities in Vietnam and Macedonia.

In June, Gentherm, in partnership with Houston-based Mattress Firm, launched the Atmos mattress, which provides both heating and cooling options.

Gentherm has nearly 10,000 employees in countries such as Canada, Hungary, Japan, and Ukraine, among others.
