A new, full-service musical instrument store, called Third Wave Music, will open on Nov. 23 in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood.

The 976-square-foot store, located in the newly renovated Forest Arms building at 4625 Second Ave. suite C2, will sell drum sticks, strings, cymbals, record needs, mouthpieces, reeds, electronic gear, and more. In addition to offering new, used, and vintage gear, the store will also offer repairs, consignment, and piano and guitar lessons for new musicians.

“After years of driving to the suburbs to go to Guitar Center, I am thrilled to open a much needed resource for local musicians,” says Jen David, owner at Third Wave Music.

David is one of the TechTown Detroit’s five Kickstart Award recipients. Her Kickstart Package included a $7,500 subsidy. She also received grant money from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and community driven Motor City Match to launch the store.

Third Wave Music will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

To mark the official opening, the store will host its first annual Wavy Week, a multi-genre celebration of Detroit musicians, from Nov. 23- 27. DJ Andrew Miller, rock group Casual Sweetheart, hip-hop act Mic Phelps and Young Macs the Realest, and experimental DJ Rebecca Goldberg, will perform as part of the events.
