New Mobile-Friendly Website 'Buy Nearby' Connects Shoppers with Michigan Retailers

The Michigan Retailers Association has launched a mobile-friendly website (buynearbymi.com) that helps connect customers to local shops and offers retailers the opportunity to promote their business.

“When shoppers make purchases in their local communities, they are contributing to our state’s economic growth and creating jobs,” says James Hallan, president and CEO of the association. “We hope Buy Nearby’s mobile-friendly website will remind Michigan shoppers to buy nearby and help retailers encourage more customers to shop at businesses in their communities.”

Hallans says the redesigned website can now be easily viewed on smartphones. Retailers can download online resources, learn ways to promote their business, and schedule a visit from the Buy Nearby mascot on the site.

The Buy Nearby campaign will mark its third annual Get Caught Blue-Handed Day Oct. 3, a day in which stores offer special promotions to thank customers.

Hallan says about half of every dollar spent in a Michigan store goes back into the local and state economies. He says if Michigan consumers switched one in 10 of their purchases from out-of-state merchants to Michigan businesses, the state would gain more than $900 million in increased economic activity and nearly 7,500 new jobs.
