New California Hotels Plans Troy Development

New California Hotels Corp., together with Park Avenue Investments LLC, announced plans Thursday for a new development to include a hotel, restaurants, and amphitheater at the site of the former Northfield Hilton at I-75 and Crooks Road in Troy. The 17-acre mixed-use development will be named LA Square and is expected to begin construction next year.

The hotel’s access road from Crooks Road, once a boulevard that led directly to the hotel, will be converted into a 200- yard- long, 60- foot-t. wide pedestrian walkway adorned on both sides by five buildings totaling 168,000 square feet of commercial retail, restaurants, and offices.

Each building will be three stories tall, and the third floor of all each buildings will feature fully furnished condo/hotel units named “LA Lofts.” The entire complex will lead to a 192-room full service hotel with two restaurants, a cafe, and bar, as well the largest ballroom and meeting space in Oakland County.

“In meeting with the city of Troy, we developed plans to benefit the residents of the community and creating a new town center for the citizens of this great community,” says Richard Halstrom, spokesperson for the company based in based in Laguna Beach, Calif.

 “LA Square will include a 500 seat amphitheater for concerts in the summer and a skating rink in the winter. There is also a proposal for farmers markets. The yet to be named hotel will also feature an upscale art gallery where Detroit artists can be featured as well as a venue for cultural and social events.”

The architectural firm of Krieger Klatt Architects Inc. of Royal Oak has been hired to design the project.
