tA national search is underway for qualified architectural firms and construction managers for an estimated $28 million renovation of the Jack Breslin Student Event Center, home to both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Michigan State University.

t“The Breslin Center is an integral part of the fabric of MSU,” says Vennie Gore, vice president for auxiliary enterprises. “We are entrusted with a great resource, and it is our responsibility to ensure that it meets the demands of today’s and tomorrow’s programming.”

tThe facility provides extensive entertainment and community uses outside its athletic capabilities including concerts, conferences, and the university’s annual convocation.

tRenovations will include upgraded restrooms, concession stands, and signage as well as safety and security measures, heating and ventilation enhancements, and sustainability improvements. Gore says the project will serve as an opportunity for the university to create a comprehensive plan for the facility.

tAn architectural firm and construction manager will be chosen this fall. Following approval of the renovation by the MSU board of trustees next year, the project is projected to be completed in fall 2018. The Breslin Center will remain open throughout the length of the project.
