Moosejaw, an outdoor apparel and recreational gear company, will open a seasonal popup shop on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. The new shop, featuring products from The North Face and Patagonia, will be less than a block away from the retailer’s permanent location.

“The dedicated space will allow us to carry many more styles in these brands than we could in a regular store that has 40 or 50 brands,” says Nick Rau, director of retail at Moosejaw. “Fans of The North Face and Patagonia will be able to see special, hard-to-find styles rarely seen in stores.”

Rau says the 4,000-square-foot space, located at 1441 Woodward Ave., was secured from Bedrock Real Estate Services. The shop, which officially opens Friday, will sell fleeces, jackets, sweatshirts, and backpacks, among other offerings.

Moosejaw’s current downtown storefront, located at 1275 Woodward Ave., originally started as a popup shop in November 2012. Due to the success of the popup shop, Rau says the store became permanent in March 2013.

The stores are located in what’s being branded by Bedrock Real Estate Services and others as the Woodward Avenue Retail District. Other stores in the district include the John Varvatos store and the Somerset Collection CityLoft popup shops.

A grand opening party will be held at the Moosejaw popup shop on Oct. 24.
