The Michigan Mobility Institute’s Mobility On-Ramp Collaborative has received state funding of $163,700 to develop a new mobility credential for working professionals. The credential is designed to strengthen career pathways through existing youth STEM initiatives and post-secondary programs, and promote next-generation mobility careers over the next two years.
The funding comes from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic – Opportunity Workforce Development via the Michigan Industry Cluster Approach 2.0 program. The award provides funding for the Michigan Mobility Institute to lead activities on behalf of the Mobility On-Ramp Collaborative, which is an effort by three Michigan mobility companies to address regional talent needs, including Bosch USA, Ford Motor Co., and May Mobility.
“Bringing together this forward-thinking group of employers is a step toward continuing to invest in the people of our state who will power the future of the mobility industry,” says Jessica Robinson, executive director of the Michigan Mobility Institute. “Talent is a central need that every employer we’ve talked to shares. It only makes sense to tackle the challenge jointly.”
Joining the employers as community partners are Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement, PlanetM, SMASH, and Wayne State University. The partners were sought out for their existing expertise as stakeholders in the community to address the workforce challenges facing the industry.
