Middle Eastern fast casual restaurant Naf Naf Grill will open its first two restaurants in Michigan in Troy and Sterling Heights in September.

“We feel that Troy and Sterling Heights are wonderful communities and they represent the epicenter of Detroit-area businesses,” says David Sloan, co-CEO of Naf Naf Grill.

Sloan says the first Naf Naf Grill in Michigan will open in Troy at 624 W. Big Beaver Rd., across from Granite City Food & Brewery. The restaurant in Sterling Heights will be located at the corner of Hall Road and Windwood Drive, near Lakeside Mall. Both eateries will be 2,400 square feet and offer 55 seats.

Naf Naf Grill customers start with a pita or bowl of basmati rice, couscous, romaine lettuce, or hummus and then add chicken shawarma, steak shawarma, or falafel. Sloan says customers can then add purple cabbage, sumac onions, and pickles along with sauces including garlic sauce, harissa sauce, tahini sauce, or s’khug, a Middle Eastern hot sauce. Naf Naf Grill also offers sides including fries, lentil soup, and Basmati rice.

Sloan says the restaurant features an open kitchen and fresh shawarma slow roasted throughout the day.

Naf Naf Grill first opened in 2009 in suburban Chicago. The restaurant chain has 18 locations in Chicago, Minneapolis, and Madison, Wis., with five more restaurants planned for the Minneapolis area and five in Philadelphia.
