Mercedes-Benz Financial Services USA in Farmington Hills, which provides finance, lease, and insurance services to Mercedes-Benz customers, is turning its vehicles into a payment device.

The newly released in-car feature, available on any Mercedes-Benz vehicle in the U.S. with the MBUX infotainment system and on-board navigation installed, also allows drivers to identify available off-street parking facilities and reserve a parking space via the infotainment system.

The system enables motorists to select check-in and check-out times, and view the total cost and confirm their booking, at which point drivers will be sent a QR code to scan when arriving at the car park to gain entry.

Payment processing is then enabled automatically by Mercedes pay. Parkopedia, one of the leading parking service providers in the US, provides the location and parking facility data that helps enable the feature.

“Our goal with Mercedes pay is to provide a seamless and exceptional customer experience across payment touchpoints within the Mercedes-Benz ecosystem,” says Jana Breitkopf, managing director and CEO of Mercedes pay USA. “This new feature addresses a major customer pain point, parking, and we’re going to make that experience a lot easier for Mercedes-Benz customers.”

Breitkopf will provide more details about the different payment features in a panel discussion on Connected Cars at the AutoTech Detroit conference on June 7 at the Suburban Collection in Novi.

Joining Breitkopf will be Dr. Hans Puvogel, COO of Mercedes Pay partner Parkopedia, among other industry experts. In-car payments for parking will be one of the topics discussed.
