Macy’s Backstage, a retail outlet for the upscale department store, will make its metro Detroit debut inside the Macy’s Fairlaine Town Center in Dearborn on Saturday, June 17. A cross between a department store and outlet, Macy’s Backstage spotlights new products in a faster schedule within a smaller, easy-to-shop environment.

The 21,900-square-foot retail center carries clothing, home goods, cosmetics, gifts, active wear, and jewelry, with a “center stage” dedicated to the latest trends. Trend boards will also highlight seasonal outfits, and other amenities include mobile check-out stations, free Wi-Fi, designated phone charging stations, free parking, and three-way mirrors in the fitting rooms.

“Macy’s Backstage is a new experience for our customer who enjoys the thrill of the hunt, providing fashion and brands at a great value,” says Tim Baxter, Macy’s chief merchandising officer. “The Backstage concept caters to the fashion-savvy, cost-conscious shopper that expects her local store to keep up with her fast-paced lifestyle. The layout is designed for maximum efficiency, while the merchandise offering changes constantly to reflect newest trends.”

Under the direction of its own team of buyers and planners, Macy’s Backstage outlet stores will offer a wide selection of merchandise from the previous season, as well as fresh merchandise from new brands and internationally recognized labels.

The grand opening will be celebrated with $20 gift card giveaways for the first 100 customers and other events throughout the day. Shoppers will also be able to use their Macy’s credit cards and earn Plenti points at Backstage locations.

Additional locations are also being planned for Oakland Mall in Troy and Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, with details to be announced throughout the summer.
