Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel Earns Historic Hotels of America Award of Excellence

The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island earned one of the Historic Hotels of America’s Annual Awards of Excellence.

Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for recognizing, celebrating, and promoting the finest historic hotels in the United States.

The Grand Hotel, built in 1887, was the winner in the Best Historic Resort category. This award is presented to a historic resort that best celebrates its history in the guest experience and provides exceptional customer hospitality and service.

Other winners included:

  • JW Merriott Savannah Plant Riverside District hotel, built in 1912 (New Member of the Year).
  • The 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa in Eureka Springs, Ark. (Best Social Media).
  • The Mohonk Mountain House New Paltz, N.Y., built in 1869 (Sustainability Champion).
  • The Hassayampa Inn, built in 1927 in Prescott, Ariz. (Small Historic Inn/Hotel), fewer than 75 guestrooms.
  • The Skytop Lodge built in 1928 in Skytop, Penn. (Best Historic Hotel — 76-200 guestrooms).
  • The Edgewater built in 1948 in Madison, Wisc. (Best Historic Hotel — 201-400 guestrooms).
  • The Hilton Chicago built in 1927 (Best Historic Hotel — more than400 guestrooms).
  • The Martinique New York on Broadway, Curio Collection by Hilton hotel, built in 1898 (Best City Center Historic Hotel).
  • 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City in Kanas City, Mo., built in 1888 (Best Historic Restaurant).
  • The Wigwam, built in 1929 in Litchfield Park, Ariz. (Ambassador of the Year — 25+ Years of Service).
