Construction will begin in the fall on a $22 million luxury apartment development, to be called District Lofts, in downtown Milford. The apartments are scheduled to be completed by early 2018.

Mark DeMaria, principal for Bingham Farms-based DevMar Development, the developer of the project, says the 100-unit structure will include two, four-story apartment buildings on a four-acre site located at 300 E. Huron St., a block east of Main Street.

“Milford has a vibrant downtown with a wide selection of entertainment, restaurants, and shops,” DeMaria says. “When I look for a location to develop, I look for walkable communities with a nice mix of retail, entertainment, outdoor recreation, and great dining experiences. Milford has all of that with access to five parks, walking trails, rivers, and streams.”

DeMaria says the complex will include one- and two-bedroom loft-style apartments ranging in size from 850 to 1,350 square feet. The development also includes 13, 1,350-square-foot penthouse apartments. The units will rent from $1,300 to $2,000 a month.

“Our typical residents are young professionals and empty-nesters — people who want an active in-town lifestyle in newly constructed residences with modern amenities and high quality design,” he says.

DeMaria says DevMar began construction on a similar luxury apartment complex in downtown Plymouth, to be called Starkweather Lofts. The apartments will feature 10-foot-high ceilings, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, in-unit washers and dryers, and balconies or patios, along with a community lounge, a community park, and a pavilion with fire-pits and grilling stations.
