As Beacon Park continues to take shape at Cass and Grand River avenues in downtown Detroit, with a grand opening scheduled for July 20, Lumen Detroit has been announced as the park’s anchor restaurant. Lumen, Latin for light, will be a modern brasserie beer garden operated by Norman, Bonnie, Scott, and Susanne LePage
The restaurant will feature an eclectic craft menu, extensive beer list, and al fresco dining experience. In addition to Lumen Detroit, the LePage family owns and operates Clubhouse BFD in Rochester Hills, and Big Rock Chophouse and Griffin Claw Brewing Co. in Birmingham.
“We wanted to come up with a name that not only tied into DTE’s innovative Beacon Park but also paid tribute to the city of Detroit,” says Norman LePage, owner of Lumen Detroit. “Our restaurant style has always been very casual, fun, family-friendly, with a little something for everyone and that is exactly what we have planned for Lumen Detroit.”
LePage adds that Lumen Detroit’s menu will be a “refreshing take” on brasserie and Belgian beer garden food, and will feature craft beers from Griffin Claw Brewing Co.
The restaurant will also feature a modern design and use open glass walls to create a flexible floor plan that includes indoor and outdoor seating, a rooftop terrace, and a sustainable living roof space. Architectural firm Touloukian Touloukian Inc. led the design of the sustainable green restaurant, with interior and patio design conducted by Victor Saroki and build out by Kelly Building Co. The space was designed to interweave park activities, live entertainment, and social gatherings with the restaurant’s menu.
DTE Energy is building the park, and programming will be offered by the Downtown Detroit Partnership. Lumen Detroit is projected to open Spring 2018.
