Royal Oak-based Loves Furniture and Mattresses, which is moving into several former Art Van Furniture locations, has opened its first seven stores in Michigan. More are planned for the state this fall.

The metro Detroit stores include locations in Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Canton Township, Portage, Shelby Township, Howell, and Port Huron. Each outlet offers mattresses, sofas, loveseats, dining furniture, and more. An opening ceremony took place today at the Canton Township location.

“We created Loves because we think everyone deserves to love where they live,” says Matt Damiani, CEO. “We saw a better way to build a furniture-buying experience – one that is personalized and designed to encourage exploration, imagination, and discovery of the perfect pieces to help create memories at home that last.”

The locations include:

  • Ann Arbor – 425 E. Eisenhower Parkway
  • Battle Creek – 6100 B Drive North Battle Creek
  • Canton Township – 41661 Ford Road
  • Howell – 4101 E. Grand River Ave.
  • Port Huron – 1234 32nd St.
  • Portage (near Kalamazoo) – 550 Ring Road
  • Shelby Township (Lakeside Mall) – 14055 Hall Road

The stores will carry brands including Tempurpedic, Beautyrest, Serta, Stearns and Foster, Lane, Bassett, Flexsteel, Jonathan Lewis, and Bernhardt, as well as brands available only at Loves. The Loves Treasures area in each store will also offer home decoration and accessories. Products in this area will rotate seasonally.

The company says it aims to offer clear and simple pricing so customers can shop within their budgets and at various price points. Customers can shop online or by appointment and can also browse in-store. They can also shop independently or with the help of Loves home and sleep specialists, who can provide support in-person or online.

Loves was founded this year and works to offer an approachable, customer-led shopping experience as well as stylish, high-quality products. The company also announced a community alliance with Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. Since March, Gleaners has nearly doubled its monthly food distribution and expanded its services. Loves will donate $10,000 to Gleaners and a portion of sales from the grand opening weekend (Sept. 3-7) of its Canton location.

The company plans to hire nearly 1,000 associates to support its 27 locations across Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The Loves Furniture brand announced in May it had acquired the inventory and assets of 27 former Art Van Furniture, Levin Furniture, and Wolf Furniture stores in five states, including the 17 in Michigan.
