Will Leather Goods, a store that sells leather bags and accessories, will open at the end of September in the former location of the Tomboy grocery store along Second Avenue in Detroit’s Midtown district.

"Detroit is the perfect backdrop to bring together my past, the present, and future of Will Leather Goods,” says William Adler, founder and creative director of Will Leather Goods.

Adler, who now resides in Eugene, Ore., attended James Vernor Elementary School on Detroit’s west side and took classes at Wayne State University. Adler’s brother, Robert who passed away last year, is credited for bringing Will Leather Goods to Detroit. He resided in Oakland County, and served as vice president of Spirit Leather Goods, parent company of Will Leather Goods.

Adler’s father worked as a buyer and merchandising manager for Detroit-based men’s clothing store Hughes and Hatcher, and his grandfather was in sales for Saks and Co., now known as Saks Fifth Avenue, which was located in Detroit’s New Center neighborhood.

The 9,000-square-foot store, at 4120 Second Ave., will feature leather backpacks, duffle bags, briefcases, and bracelets, among other accessories.

Will Leather Goods, founded in 2007, has eight storefronts across the United States, including Venice, Calif., New York, San Francisco, and Portland, Ore., among others.
