Kintsugi Village, a new educational campus where creativity, learning, and community come together officially opens its doors with a grand opening celebration on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood.
Kintsugi Village is located at 2020 14th St. in Detroit, and is immediately east of Newlab and Michigan Central.
The grand opening event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a short program emceed by WDIV Anchor Rhonda Walker, with guests including local elected and city officials, Kintsugi Village board members, and the general public.
Event activities for the grand opening event will include guided tours, a DJ set, kid’s activities, and food from several restaurant vendors. The family-friendly celebration is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance at kintsugivillage.org/grand-opening.
Kintsugi Village is a diverse ecosystem under one roof: an early childhood education center, a retreat center, an artist Incubator, culinary initiatives, a community garden, a pocket forest, event space, and educational programs for all ages.
It is a place where humans, big and little, come to create, grow, and connect, fostering personal transformation through shared experiences in art, food, education, and well-being.
“We believe that when we come together, we can build something truly beautiful, one piece at a time,” says Paul Spiegelman, co-founder of Kintsugi Village. “This campus is about resilience, connection, and embracing the beauty in our stories and in each other.”
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art form that repairs broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Instead of hiding cracks, Kintsugi celebrates imperfections and highlights beauty in the broken pieces.
At Kintsugi Village, the philosophy is brought to life as a metaphor for resilience, adaptability, creativity, and the power of overcoming challenges together.
“Kintsugi Village is not just a place, it’s a movement,” says Hamsa Yaqo, co-founder of Kintsugi Village. “Together we can repair, create, and thrive, one golden piece at a time.
