Romeo native country-rap-rocker Kid Rock (Bob Ritchie) has made a “major” donation through his Kid Rock Foundation to jump start the launch of the Grand Rapids-based Foundation for Medical Advancement and Breakthroughs, the nonprofit arm of BAMF Health.

The foundation’s goal is to advance the development of novel radiopharmaceuticals and improve patient access to precision medicine, specifically for cancer treatment.

“We are grateful to Kid Rock and the entire Ritchie family for recognizing the world-class care delivered by the team at BAMF Health and now ensuring we’ll be able to conduct groundbreaking research and deliver care to even more people,” says Chad Bassett, COO of BAMF Health.

William R. Ritchie, Kid Rock’s father, came to BAMF Health in 2022 after a years-long battle with prostate cancer. With his wife, Susan, by his side, William Ritchie looked forward to his treatments and raved about BAMF’s compassionate, caring, and comforting team, according to his family.

William “Bill” Ritchie, who owned a number of car dealerships, passed away this year.

His son, officially Robert James Ritchie, has a home in Clarkston, and now mostly resides in Nashville, Tenn. He also has a residence in Jupiter, Fla.

“I would like my foundation to be the first one to donate to this incredible foundation in my father’s memory,” says Kid Rock. “We all knew that if the treatments he was receiving at BAMF Health had been around 5-10 years earlier, our father would still be with us. As a family, we hope to spread the word about how BAMF Health is helping change the lives of those with cancer.”

The Foundation for Medical Advancement and Breakthroughs was created to support three key initiatives:

Patient Access – Provide financial assistance to patients struggling with insurance coverage, co-pays, travel expenses, or other barriers to access.

Education – Offer community education, student training programs, and workforce development opportunities to increase awareness of and advance the field of theranostics.

Research – Advance the development and use of radiopharmaceuticals and further precision medicine.

“Our patients are truly inspired by the care they receive here and have been asking for ways to support others going through the same thing,” Bassett says. “It’s that generous spirit that drives the work we do every day.”
