tThe Battle Creek-based breakfast foods company, Kellogg Co., will open a regional services center in Grand Rapids later this year, creating up to 600 jobs by 2016.

tThe North America Global Business Services Center, set to open in the third quarter, is part of a restructuring program and new service delivery model for the company. It will serve as a regional hub for the company’s transactional work in finance, IT, supply chain, and human resources, says Kris Charles, a Kellogg spokesman.

t“GBS will streamline many end-to-end, transactional, and repeatable processes that support our business,” said John Bryant, Kellogg’s president and CEO. “This will result in significant improvements in effectiveness, efficiency, and collaboration, while creating new capabilities and enhanced organizational capacity.”

tBryant says Grand Rapids was selected as the site for the new facility based on operating costs; availability of suitable facilities; and access to a qualified talent pool, as the city is home to many similar service centers belonging to companies such as Amway, Steelcase, and Priceline.com.

t“Grand Rapids is a vibrant community and urban center of a growing region of more than one million people,” Bryant says. “As Michigan’s second-largest city, and a short distance from our headquarters, Grand Rapids is known for its proximity to major markets — including Chicago and Detroit — as well as affordable commercial space and a highly qualified workforce.”
