As part of its 23rd annual Partners Events, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute Partners Committee will hold its annual Partners Night and Golf Classic this fall to raise awareness and funds for the cancer research center.

Partners Night, a high-energy gala, will feature a strolling cocktail reception and dinner, raffle, live entertainment, and a fashion show presented by Linda Dresner, owner of Birmingham-based Linda Dresner Inc., titled WO-MAN: A celebration of the independent woman.

Tickets for the event, to be held Oct. 22 at the Russell Industrial Center, located at 1600 Clay St., are $250.

“The team we work with truly does transform (The Russell) into a different space,” says Patricia Ellis, a spokesperson with Karmanos. “It’s kind of a very cool feel.”

She says additional information regarding attire, theme, and more, will be announced closer to the event.

The Partners Golf Classic, to be held Sept. 26 at the Franklin Hills Country Club, 31675 Inkster, will include an 18-hole competitive scramble and golf cart; breakfast; barbeque lunch; refreshments; and an awards dinner, which will recognize the lowest scoring men’s, women’s, mixed, and pro-am teams.

“We’re looking forward to selling out both Partners Events and we encourage everyone to make their reservation,” says Adam Speck, 2016 executive co-chair of the Partners Committee. “More importantly, (the) support will help scientists at Karmanos continue to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients by helping to advance cancer research that can lead to new life-saving treatments.”

Partner honorees for this year’s events are Karmanos supporters and community philanthropists Dresner and Ed Levy, Jr., CEO of Dearborn-based Edward C. Levy Co. and member of Karmanos Cancer Institute’s board of directors.

“We are extremely grateful for the continued commitment of Linda Dresner and Ed Levy, Jr., and all they do to support Karmanos and those we serve,” says Gerold Bepler, president and CEO of the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Located in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, a subsidiary of McLaren Health Care, is one of 47 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. Since the committee began, Partners Events have raised more than $15 million to support Karmanos cancer research.
