Benton Harbor-based luxury kitchen appliance company Jenn-Air today released its first Wi-Fi connected refrigerator. The unit features a 72-inch counter-depth French door and the brand’s obsidian interior.
Similar to Jenn-Air’s connected wall ovens, the refrigerator includes wireless connectivity and an application for controlling many of the unit’s functions using IOS and Android devices. Using the Jenn-Air refrigerator app enables remote temperature control in the refrigerator, freezer, and temperature controlled pantry.
In addition, a sensor sends an alert when the temperature in the refrigerator or freezer compartment gets too warm, most likely from a door being left slightly open. Other connectivity offerings include a water filter status indicator, a favorite fill feature for a coffee pot or a water bottle, an electronic temperature controlled dedicated storage drawer with four settings for sensitive foods, produce crisper drawers, and an herb tender container that allows the stems, but not the herbs, to be submerged in water.
“The refrigerator’s connectivity, enabling remote management of its features, helps enhance the refrigerator’s efficiency,” says Brian Maynard, Jenn-Air’s marketing director. “In addition to these technological advances, we’ve also incorporated the elegant design details Jenn-Air is known for, including our modern, Obsidian black refrigerator interior.”
In turn, an accessories section in the app connects directly to the site where replacement filters can be ordered for direct delivery. Modes and features that can be controlled remotely include Sabbath and pure freeze modes, along with dispenser light brightness and favorite fill controls.
Style choices include a Euro-Style design featuring slightly curved, metal handles, and a more commercial Pro-Style option which includes metal handles with a diamond etched grip. There is a MSRP of $4,599 for the Euro-Style, and $4,699 for the Pro-Style option.
