Safe Harbor Marinas in Dallas has announced the acquisition of two marinas in Michigan – Jefferson Beach Marina in St. Clair Shores and Toledo Beach Marina in La Salle. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With the additions, the company has expanded its network to 70 marinas in 18 states. The acquisitions are part of the company’s program to grow and diversify its portfolio.

“We’re pleased to welcome these properties into our portfolio,” says Baxter Underwood, CEO of Safe Harbor Marinas. “As we continue to expand our network and … we’re in a unique position to serve boaters. We look forward to providing Safe Harbor Members at Jefferson Beach and Toledo Beach marinas with the very best in boating lifestyle.”

Jefferson Beach Marina was an amusement park that opened in 1927 and offered a roller coaster, carousel, fun house, arcade, floating dance hall, and an illuminated beach area for night swimming. In 1955, a fire swept through the park. Following the blaze, the operations began to refocus on boating and marine equipment.

In 1959, the park officially closed, and the expansion of the marina began. Today, it offers dockage, service, storage, internet, cable TV, an on-site restaurant, fitness center, horseshoes, laundry facilities, volleyball courts, community decks with grills, and a waterfront picnic area.

Toledo Beach Marina also started as an amusement park in the 1920s, offering beaches, a dance hall, picnic grounds, and amusement rides. In 1962, it was dredged and turned into a marina. Today, it serves the southwestern waters and neighboring islands of Lake Erie and offers a heated swimming pool, playscape, picnic area, laundry facilities, volleyball courts, as well as dockage, service, and storage.

The two Michigan marinas entered into a partnership in 2011.
