In-dash Fuel Payment Now Available Through Texas-based Shell Oil Co. and Detroit’s GM

Texas-based Shell Oil Co. today announced that Shell-branded stations across the U.S. now accept Detroit-based General Motors Co.’s in-dash fuel payment and loyalty experience.

Owners of eligible Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles can use Shell Pay and Save within GM Marketplace to pay for their fuel directly from their vehicles’ infotainment screen, which earning and redeeming Fuel Rewards savings.

“We are very excited to be able to announce that this technology is now live at Shell-branded locations across the United States,” says Sydney Kimball, vice president of fuel sales and marketing Americas for Shell Oil Products U.S. “What an incredible opportunity this is, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this to our customers.”

Customers using this payment method will make a few selections on the vehicle’s touchscreen, and a three-digit access code will be generated that allows the user to activate a specific pump and start fueling. The amount due is automatically charged to the customer’s payment method of choice, which can be credit, debit, or directly from a checking account.

As part of the launch, customers can earn a one-time discount of 25 cents per gallon in Fuel Rewards savings, up to 20 gallons, on their next single-fueling transaction after they sign up and use Shell Pay and Save within Marketplace and make a purchase of at least five gallons. These customers can also earn an extra 5 cents per gallon in Fuel Rewards savings, up to 20 gallons, after each fuel purchase of at least five gallons on every fill-up through Dec. 31.

Marketplace is a commerce platform for on-demand reservations and purchases of goods and services. It allows GM owners to order food, make dinner reservations, and find parking or hotels.
