Bloem, a West Michigan-based manufacturer of planters, today announced the acquisition of Florida-based American Designer Pottery, a division of Fiskars Brands Inc. and also a manufacturer of decorative planters. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are acquiring American Designer Pottery from Fiskars because we see significant synergies between the companies marketing and manufacturing capabilities with very little redundancy,” says Ryan Mast, president and founder of Hudsonville-based Bloem. “Following the acquisition, Bloem will (have)…reach into national retailers, regional co-op stores, and independent home and garden centers.”

Mast says Bloem plans to maintain and grow American Designer Pottery’s manufacturing operations in Florida, while adding at least 10 more employees in Hudsonville to manage new business growth. With the acquisition, Bloem’s reach will extend into more than 10,000 retailers in all 50 states and across Canada.

American Designer Pottery recorded net sales of $27.5 million in 2015 and employs nearly 50 full-time employees and about 100 part-time and seasonal workers during its peak production. Fiskars is a supplier of consumer products for the home, garden, and outdoors. Its brands include Fiskars, Iittala, Gerber, Gilmour, Nelson, and Gingher.

Bloem, founded in 2012, offers birdbaths, hanging baskets, window boxes, urns, and watering cans, among other outdoor products. The addition of American Designer Pottery marks the company’s third acquisition. â€‹
