Insite Commercial, a real estate company based in Commerce Township, is working with private sellers on nearly 20 acres of property in Auburn Hills that have been approved for hospitality and business development.

Located at 550 Great Lakes Crossing Drive, south of Great Lakes Crossing Outlets, the property has been approved for a 250-room hotel, two nine-story office buildings, and a 100,000-square-foot medical building.

“When you look at what goes on in these retail-type developments, the ring roads, (or) the roads that go around major retail developments, become the secondary prime targets for development,” says Randy Thomas, president of Insite. “This is the prime target area for future development.”

Thomas says his company has received several inquiries from hospitality organizations regarding the site. “There’s a lot going on in the intersection from a retail standpoint and you do have the entertainment component both with The Palace (of Auburn Hills) and DTE (Energy Music Theatre) in near proximity,” he says.

According to Great Lakes Crossing Outlets, owned by Taubman Centers Inc. in Bloomfield Hills, nearly 20 percent of its shoppers are tourists traveling 60 miles or more. In addition, there are around 15 hotels in Auburn Hills, including Hilton Suites Auburn Hills, Courtyard Detroit Auburn Hills, and Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts Auburn Hills.
