The Athlete Lab, a high-performance training and sports science center, is slated to open in Farmington Hills later this month.

A collaboration between the Suburban Sports Group (SSG), also based in Farmington Hills, and 2SP Sports Performance in Madison Heights, the Athlete Lab will provide progressive training, testing and education to inspire and support an athlete’s peak physical and mental performance.

“We are very excited about bringing these resources together to create a space to fully support the needs of today’s competitive athlete,” says Tom Anastos, CEO of Suburban Sports Group. “Our goal is to not only provide training and tools that will help athletes pursue their dreams and highest potential today, but also to help establish a set of physical and mental skills and lifestyle habits that will impact their lives long after their competitive playing days are over.”

The 13,000 square-foot facility, located on Freeway Park Drive near Grand River Avenue and West 10 Mile Road, will feature more than 6,600 square feet of performance training space, a Cognitive Training Zone, indoor turf, a Mind Gym Classroom, Study Areas, Athlete Lounge, Recovery Area, Fuel Bar, and Physical Therapy clinic.

The Cognitive Training Zone will utilize the Sense Arena virtual reality training and Senaptec Technology, designed to improve movement, balance, and reaction time.

2SP Sports Performance, a training company specializing in rotational sports with four locations throughout southeast Michigan, will train athletes in the performance training space, which will feature weight racks, Kaiser squat racks; FreeMotion cable columns; a dumbbell zone; and a skating treadmill.

An adjacent turfed area will feature Torque Tank4 sleds, sprint lanes, a medicine ball zone, battle rope zone, and open space for functional movement exercises.

The Athlete’s Lounge will serve as a leisure area for athletes to relax and unwind, as well as an opportunity to refuel at the Athlete Lab Fuel Bar.

Physical therapy will be provided by APEX Physical Therapy, which focuses on hands-on orthopedic manual physical therapy as well as specific and individualized exercise programs to eliminate symptoms, restore movement, and improve function.
