Herman Miller Inc., a global design manufacturer headquartered in west Michigan, today announced Live OS, its first human-centered, enterprise-ready system of cloud-connected office furnishings.
Live OS furnishings will include sit-to-stand and fixed height live desks, which are equipped with sensors that are connected to the cloud. The technology allows the system to sense people, collect anonymized, real-time data on desk utilization, and adapt to the user’s preferences.
By tapping the desk control once, for example, the sit-to-stand desk remembers and adjusts to the user’s preferred postures. The user can also choose to receive reminders to switch postures as indicated by lights and vibrations. The new line also features an app and dashboard to create workplaces that are better connected to employees.
“With the data insights captured through Live OS, organizations can better measure and manage workplace strategy to optimize real estate usage and improve employee experience,” says Ryan Anderson, director of commercialization for Live OS.
“Our initial testing indicates that employees using Live sit-to-stand desks have become more active, transitioning between sitting and standing six-times as often as previously recorded. We’re excited by these early results as we seek to improve comfort and encourage people to adopt healthier behaviors in the workplace.”
