Lansing-based Health Management Associates has announced it will merge with Leavitt Partners in Utah. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Health Management is an independent, national research and consulting firm specializing in publicly funded health care and human services policy, programs, financing, and evaluation.
“Leavitt Partners is widely respected for its health policy guidance, strategic advisory services, and role as a convener,” says Jay Rosen, founder and president of Health Management. “We believe their experience paired with the work we do at all levels of government — especially with states and counties — will further enhance our client services and be a powerful force for positive change.”
Leavitt is a consulting firm that helps clients navigate change in health care, providing a view of economic, market, delivery system, public policy, and political influences impacting health care. It will continue to operate as Leavitt Partners, an HMA Company.
“While both Leavitt Partners and HMA operate at the intersection of health care and government, our areas of emphasis are highly complementary and strengthen the offerings and footprint of both firms,” says Mike Leavitt, founder and chair of Leavitt Partners.
Rosen and Leavitt will serve as co-chairs of Health Management. Rosen will continue to serve as president of Health Management, and Leavitt will continue in his role at Leavitt Partners.
Health Management was founded in 1985. Its clients include government, public and private providers, health systems, health plans, community-based organizations, institutional investors, foundations, and associations. It has 22 offices and more than 225 multidisciplinary consultants across the U.S.
Leavitt served as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services before forming Leavitt Partners in 2009. Leavitt Partners has more than 90 employees and has served clients in all 50 states.
