Harbour View Inn on Mackinac Island is opening the 2026 season in May with completely reimagined and newly designed guest rooms, suites, and gardens, preserving the charm and heritage of the historic hotel.
The property offers 84 guest rooms and suites across the Guest House, Carriage House, Château, and the historic Cottage House. Nestled among the island’s summer cottages and Victorian mansions, the inn is located just steps from downtown. It also offers sweeping views of the harbor.
The renovation represents one of the most significant updates in the property’s recent history. Interiors have been designed with new furnishings and design details were inspired by Mackinac Island’s coastal palette.
“We are thrilled to invite our guests to experience a reimagined Harbour View Inn,” says Sam Barnwell, chief development officer at Harbour View Inn. “This transformation honors the heritage and charm of Harbour View Inn, while creating an even more memorable stay for our guests (who are) discovering the magic of Mackinac Island.”
The inn originally was built in 1820 for Madame Magdelaine Laframboise, a prominent fur trader widely known as the “first lady of Mackinac Island.” Over time, the residence expanded into an inn composed of several historic buildings surrounding the original Laframboise home.
Features including the inn’s expansive two-story front porch, gardens, and harbor views remain central to the guest experience, offering settings to relax after exploring the island’s scenic bike paths and shoreline, historic landmarks, and downtown district.
This summer guests will experience gardens designed by award-winning landscape architect Jack Barnwell. Also new to the collection is Pedals Harbour Grille, open Memorial Day to Labor Day, where guests can bike up for a fresh take on al fresco streetside dining.
The cost of the renovation was not provided.
